Our Story

Donald and Irene Willey, circa 1962

Our History

Donald and Irene Willey, married January 1962, began a roadside stand in the mid-70's located in Townsend, Delaware.  With only an airline baggage cart and tomatoes from Mom's garden - Willey Farms began.  Wanting a legacy to pass on to their children, Don and Irene worked tirelessly, children in tow, to become 'Delaware's Finest (and largest) Farm Market.  Now owned and managed by the Willey children, new farmers markets have been established in lower Delaware and Maryland.

Carolina On My Mind

Developing a love for South Carolina during many produce runs with her Mom and Dad - tomatoes from Beaufort, corn from Orangeburg, and melons from Statesboro, Georgia just over the line - youngest daughter, Rachel, vowed to relocate right after college.  Establishing herself and learning the landscape, Rachel and husband Mike, settled in a little town called Dorchester, west of historic Charleston.

Carrying on a Dream

Wanting to build on the magic of Willey Farms, Ray O Sunshine Food and Garden was established in March of 2019!  Providing local produce, nursery and gifts items - this market is a sweet little gem right off of highway 78 in Dorchester, South Carolina - minutes from Saint George, Ridgeville, and Summerville!
